I sent an urgent letter to the Minister of Public Works, Fred Tilley, regarding the condition of Highway 101 in Lower Sackville.
Especially in the immediate vicinity of Exit 4F, severe potholes have created a danger to motorists. Numerous reports of damage to vehicles have already been made, and commuters should not need to wait any longer for the issue to be rectified. The full text of the letter is as follows:
Dear Minister,
I write to inform you of provincial infrastructure in poor repair in the electoral district of Sackville-Cobequid. The condition of Highway 101 has become untenable and dangerous for my constituents, and I request your immediate attention.
With regard to the stretch of Highway 101 inbound just before Exit 4F, many constituents and commuters have reported potholes which have caused severe damage to vehicles and a hazard to motorists. Many have expressed deep concern that the worst of this section, just before Old Sackville Road, is highly likely to result in serious traffic incidents if action is not taken immediately.
The Harvest Highway, which routinely carries drivers to and from the Halifax Regional Municipality, is a critical part of our province’s infrastructure as the most direct means of travel between our city, the Annapolis Valley, and Yarmouth. The people of Lower Sackville rely on this road for their commutes every day, whether in a personal vehicle or on public transportation, and their safety and property are now at risk with each drive.
As you no doubt agree, Nova Scotia’s highways are a primary force behind the livelihoods of our communities and industries. They are an imperative facet of everyday life in our province, and are due a high degree of upkeep. I trust that you will act to rectify this issue without delay.
Sincerely,
Paul Wozney
