Just weeks after they unionized in December 2025, 71 workers at game developer Ubisoft’s Halifax office have been laid off. Through no fault of their own, dozens of skilled Nova Scotian employees are now without a job, despite their employer receiving $100,000 in public funds from the province since 2022.
The timing of this closure raises serious questions, and is a reminder that Nova Scotia has some of the weakest workers’ rights legislation in the country.
Nova Scotians want a thriving economy for our province, and that simply can’t be achieved if we don’t look after the people who work here. It’s time the province did more to protect workers, make unionization easier, and hold unscrupulous employers accountable.
